Six years prior to the formation of the present Scottish Junior Association, an attempt was made in August 1880 to form a Scottish Junior FA. Of the 48 clubs which sent in for membership, 30 were admitted, 6 refused, 4 withdrew their application, 5 didn't send in the required particulars and 3 were expelled. Based primarily in the Glasgow and district area, this Scottish Junior FA, like its successor also ran a Scottish Junior Cup competition before apparently disbanding at the end of the season.

The proposal for a cup competition for junior representative sides called the Scottish Junior Counties Cup was made by the Aberdeenshire JFA in a meeting in Perth on 3 November 1923. The Junior FAs represented were Perthshire, Aberdeenshire, Fifeshire, Forfarshire, Stirlingshire and Lanarkshire and the winners would be awarded the Martin-Muir Cup. After a break for ten years the competition resurfaced in 1951 with a different trophy, the RS McColl Cup being awarded.

A separate Excel file compiled by Tom McGouran containing goalscorers for most of the matches can be accessed HERE

The Scottish Jubilee Shield was played for in 1935-36 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Scottish Junior FA. It was competed for by the winners of the various county cups.

Between 1970 and 1987 the Drybrough Brewery sponsored a national competition that was played between the winners of the various Regional Drybrough Cups. For many years the ties were played on neutral grounds that had Drybrough's Social Clubs.

The Scottish Junior FA Super Cup was awarded to the winners of a competition played between the winners of the previous season's Scottish Junior Cup and Regional Leagues.

The latter rounds of the 2019-20 Scottish Junior Cup was held over to the following season because of the Covid pandemic but was ultimately abandoned due to the ongoing restrictions and the 2020-21 edition was not competed for.
