The Renfrewshire Junior League was initially formed by clubs in the county's upper ward in June 1897 but it folded after only one season.

It was re-formed in July 1904 although it appears that the first matches were not played until April 1905, this version folded in 1906. After a war-time version was played in 1915-16 the league didn't reappear until 1920, folding in 1926.

It was re-formed in March 1932 and until 1934 the league was played to give clubs more fixtures towards the end of the season.

 

In 1898 it had been replaced by the Western Junior League which encompassed clubs from Renfrewshire, Dunbartonshire and Glasgow and existed beyond the turn of the century.

 

The Western Junior League of 1904-05 was a supplementary competition formed in February 1905 by five clubs.

 

A district league had also existed in Greenock in the mid-1890s.
