Competition for clubs in the Kirkintilloch area of Stirlingshire.

"Jubilee Cup - At a meeting of representatives from the following clubs:- Athletic, Central, Harp, and Rob Roy, it was resolved to have a competition among the clubs, the proceeds of admission to go towards purchasing a cup, to be named the Jubilee Cup, and competed for annually. Mr Andrew Aitken was appointed treasurer, and Mr Wm. Fletcher, Jun., secretary."

From the Kirkintilloch Herald, 25 May 1887

"The Kirkintilloch Football Clubs are just now in possession of a very handsome cup, which, with the 9-inch pedestal that supports it, has an elevation of 25 inches. On the face of the pedestal is a silver plate for the names of whatever teams may win the trophy, which bears the following explicit inscription:- "Kirkintilloch Football Challenge Cup. 1887. Raised by competition between the first and second elevens of the following clubs, viz., Athletic, Central, Harp, and Rob Roy, in commemoration of Her Majesty's jubilee. To be competed for annually." In last season's competitions, which were stubbornly contested, the first Athletic fought its way to the premier position, but its name is not to appear on the cup. It seems the committee that had the making of the conditions decided, with the full concurrence of the Athletic delegates, that the name of the team that won the final of the inaugural contests should not appear on the cup. By this somewhat unreasonable-looking arrangement the Athletic is deprived of much of the honour of its hard-won victory, and the cup itself loses an interesting page of its history. It has been decided to hand the cup, which is meantime in the care of Mr Andrew Aitken, of the Central, over to Mr Calder, president of the Athletic."
