The Forfar County League was formed in January 1895 by Arbroath Wanderers, Montrose, Brechin, Kirriemuir plus Forfar Athletic and Frockheim (who both later declined to compete). Invites were sent out to the Dundee clubs to join, with Hibernian joining. At a subsequent meeting in Arbroath in February, Mr W Lyall of Arbroath Wanderers was appointed secretary, and Mr G Campbell of Brechin moved that the new league be called the Forfar County League. The new body had lofty ambitions, and it was hoped that the league could expand to include clubs from the neighbouring counties. However the league disbanded at the end of the season.

Elected officials were,

President – Mr Davidson (Montrose)

Vice-president – George Campbell (Brechin)

Secretary and treasurer – Mr James Walker (Arbroath Wanderers)
