1896-97 Midlothian League
The Midlothian League was competed for during
1896-97. The first game was played on 16 January 1897 and the winners were
awarded a trophy put up by Sir Thomas Carmichael, MP. Although the fixture list
was incomplete, thanks mainly to Penicuik’s successful cup runs, Polton Vale were declared champions. The league was
discontinued but Carmichael Cup continued as a knock-out competition for West
and Mid Lothian clubs until 1903.
